About Becky…

Rebecca Faye Smith Galli is a freelance writer and columnist who draws on her fifteen years of experience in sales, marketing and human resources consulting, as well as the ups and downs of being the mother of four.  Becky currently writes two monthly columns, “From Where I Sit…,” for two local Patuxent Publishing weeklies and “Looking Homeward…,” for Gannett’s The Herald-Dispatch.  She also periodically contributes to The Baltimore Sun’s Op-Ed page. 

In 2000, she became an officer and founding board member for Pathfinders for Autism, a Baltimore-based non-profit organization that supports research, resource and referral programs for children with autism and their families.  She is active in the Transverse Myelitis Association and has been a Board member for The League for People with Disabilities where she still serves on the advisory committee for Camp Greentop, a therapeutic recreation camping program that her child with autism attends. She served as an elder in her church, chaired the Baltimore Carolina Club and is now a Board Member of the General Alumni Association of The University of North Carolina.  She continues her committee work in Baltimore's prominent business club, The Center Club, and enjoys volunteering at St. Paul's.  She also serves as an academic advisor for Team Kolat, a Baltimore-based wrestling club.

In 2006, Becky republished her father’s first book, “Looking Homeward…Reports from the homefront line,” to both answer the numerous requests for his “Looking Homeward…” newspaper columns that she has continued writing since his death in 2003 and to commemorate the dedication of the “Rev. Dr. R.F. Smith Chapel” at Cabell Huntington Hospital, in West Virginia.

She is currently completing her first book, “Plan B Living…Life can be good, no matter what” with editor Debra Pickrel and is compiling a book of select columns, “From Where I Sit…you won’t believe the view I have!”

A Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina, Becky has worked for IBM, where she won the Golden Circle award for marketing excellence, and for Drake Beam Morin, a world leader in Human Resources consulting.
